Job Positions

We are a spin-off company of Ghent University created to provide contract research services to the shrimp aquaculture industry. As a professional Contract Research Organisation (CRO), we are able to provide solutions for the biggest health challenges of shrimp farming.

Laboratory technician

IMAQUA is looking for a full time Laboratory technician

We require a highly motivated person with high sense of commitment and responsibility. The wish to engage in a long-term work commitment is a prerequisite.

Required candidate profile

  • Degree on biotechnology or similar
  • Experience on laboratory work
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • Strong sense of motivation and initiative
  • Strong sense of responsibility and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to follow strict standard operating procedures
  • Excellent communicator (give and receive feedback)
  • Compliance with confidentiality of all data related to Imaqua & Clients
  • Willing to do occasional weekend work and/or extra hours
  • Excellent English language skills, spoken and written
  • Strong knowledge on Microsoft office package and software in general is a plus

Tasks

  • Planning, setting up and undertaking controlled experiments and trials:
    • Plan correctly
    • Prepare trial documentation
    • Setup and execute controlled infection experiments on shrimp
    • Write internal reports
    • Overview over all experiments and trials
  • Organisation and quality control:
    • Comply with ordering system rules
    • Calibrate equipment
    • Validate maintenance, cleaning and sterility of equipment as quality control
    • Planning materials & equipment, discipline in administration
  • Handling
    • Correctly withdraw of blood from shrimp & testing of immune parameters
    • Examine animals for behavioural changes or clinical symptoms
    • Comply with safety procedures
    • Develop daily planning & task overview

PhD student

IMAQUA BVBA is looking for a graduate student interested in obtaining a PhD degree in Veterinary Sciences. This research project will be performed in a commercial/academic setting at IMAQUA BVBA and in collaboration with renowned scientists of Ghent University. The aim will be to develop new models for testing shrimp diseases and immunity at a commercial scale.

We offer a possibility for obtaining a PhD degree (3-4 years program) and subsequent career development at a dynamic Contract Research Organisation and while participating in interesting research projects and being a part of an international team.

We require a person with high sense of commitment and responsibility who in time would be willing to lead a research team and manage a client portfolio. The wish to engage in a long-term work commitment after obtaining the degree is a prerequisite.

  • Performing scientific experiments
  • Drafting detailed reports and research papers
  • Drafting research projects and respective research plans (later stage)
  • Coordination of research team (later stage)
  • Organization and supervision of routine research work (later stage)
  • Coordination and optimisation of in vivo research work and infrastructure (later stage)
  • Organisation and improvement of laboratory workflows (later stage)
